This SIG summarizes current approaches to pharmacological treatment of autism. Current understanding of co-morbidity and autism are reviewed along with current guidelines for drug treatments and available research. Areas of current controversy include differences in approaches to co-morbidity and limitations of available research. On the other hand, some well controlled studies exist. Current indications for drug treatments and the role of integrating drug treatments as part of the entire program of service to the individual are discussed.
