Wednesday, October 25
7:00 – 8:30 a.m. (ticket)
Dorothea L. DeGutis, M.D., FAACAP, Lucy Brown, M.D., F.A.A.P.
This breakfast is designed to be an interactive forum with two psychiatrists who are experts in working with deaf children and their families. While the specific discussion is tailored to the interests and needs of breakfast participants, past breakfasts have addressed issues such as mainstreaming, cochlear implants, development and use of communication systems, the nature of hallucinations in deaf children, and working with families. Clinical pearls for differentiating “normal” deaf children from those with more serious mental health issues are discussed, as well as the appropriate use of interpreters in clinical settings.
Sponsored by the AACAP Deaf and Hard of Hearing Committee
