What is it like to work as a child psychiatrist in a rural community? This breakfast provides the opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards of rural child and adolescent psychiatry. For those already practicing in rural areas, this breakfast provides the opportunity to discuss the clinical and service system dilemmas encountered in a rural child and adolescent psychiatric practice. Discussions address the substantial need for child psychiatrists in rural communities, options for structuring your practice so that you meet the clinical needs of your patients and their families while also building time for family, continuing education, and collegial contact and support. The use of physician extenders and the practicalities of collaborations with a range of professionals is also discussed.
