ICCAP Receives Advocacy Grant
ICCAP is honored to receive one of only a few Advocacy grants from AACAP for their project on advocacy. The purpose of this project is three-fold:
1) to improve communication and collaboration between Illinois child psychiatrists and primary care physicians with regards to pediatric mental health problems seen in primary care, with the specific goal of establishing a strong collaboration between the Illinois Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ICCAP) and the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics;
2) to compose a brief statement for publication and distribution describing the barriers to accessing mental health care for youth with a list of potential solutions, including changes in CPT codes to allow payment for phone consultations between pediatricians and child psychiatrists, to push for full parity, to push for Medicaid reimbursement to pediatricians and other PCPs for providing mental health services, and payment for case management services if possible;
3) to form an ongoing workgroup whose function is to design and pursue implementation of a proposed payment strategy.
For more information about the project, please email Amber Thompson at ICCAP.Thompson@gmail.com
