This Workshop provides an introduction to a practical approach to treating traumatic stress in children who live in challenging social environments. This approach, called Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), is a fully-manualized, empirically-supported treatment. This Workshop provides practitioners with a general understanding of the overall treatment model, as well as hands-on training in assessment and treatment planning under TST. Training includes theoretical orientation to understanding the neurobiology of emotion regulation, how this is affected by trauma, and practical clinical implications. There is discussion on how traumatic reminders lead to emotional state changes and definitions of the four emotional states are given. The participants are introduced to the role of the social environment and practical means of assessing this environment is taught, supported by clinical worksheets.
