54th Annual Meeting Program
Institute 4: International Institute on Prevention of Bullying and Health Risks

Thursday, October 25
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (ticket)
Jorge C. Srabstein, M.D., Chair

Thirty percent of U.S. adolescents participate in bullying behaviors. Five percent of U.S. adolescents who participate in frequent bulling, as victims and/or as bullies, suffer from physical and emotional symptoms that occurred at least once a week or more frequently. These adolescents are at a significantly higher risk of suffering from serious injuries and/or attempting suicide than their peers, who do not participate in bullying. This Institute is designed to enable child and adolescent psychiatrists to understand the nature of bullying and to identify health risks. It is also intended to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric conditions, which can cause and/or be the consequence of bullying, provide awareness about research-based bullying prevention programs, and advocate for bullying prevention public health policies.
