7:00 – 8:30 a.m. (ticket)
Mary Lynn Dell, M.D., Th.M., Nancy B. Black, M.D., David Rube, M.D.
Religion and spirituality, as key elements of culture, influence normal development, attitudes, and behavior pertaining to medical and psychiatric care, relationships with other individuals inside and outside the family, and the general worldview of the child, adolescent, and his or her family. Like any other important element of life, religious and spiritual issues may also be found in family relational problems and in psychopathology. Clinicians need to be familiar with the assessment of religious and spiritual issues in normal development, psychopathology, and family dynamics. Using participants’ case material and recent research findings, Drs. Dell, Black, and Rube facilitate a discussion of religious/spiritual issues in normal development, assessment, treatment planning, and other aspects of child and adolescent psychiatric practice. Attendees are invited and encouraged to bring relevant material from their own clinical practices for group discussion and consultation.
